Wild White Horses of Camargue

These wild horses of Camargue are indigenous to the Southern region of France. They are one of the original species to inhabit this area. For centuries, the Camargue horses have lived wild in the Camargue marshes and wetlands of the Rhone delta. The horses of Camargue, which are the size of a large pony, have developed the stamina, hardiness and agility which have been witnessed today in this romantic setting. Their strength and power can be seen in their spectacular wild gallop through the sea. When on land they are a very gentle breed of horses.

Guardian in Training

A young man in training to become a "Guardian" - the keeper and protector of the Wild horses of Camargue. He is used to riding bareback without a saddle so he is very loose on his hold of the reins and his bare feet do not need to be in the stirrups.

Girl Guardian and Wild Horse

Jumping Wild Horse

This wild white horse of Camargue looks immense when jumping out of the sea. In reality they are only the size of very large ponies.

Dam Mare and Young Foal

This mare is the young foal's female parent or known as its dam. The foal got sleepy and laid down for a nap and the white "dam" eventually laid down next to her foal. These horses of Camargue are born with dark brown hair and grow a coat of white hair as they mature.

Frisky Foal
